Ireland has shed its squeaky-green image, according to the latest Lonely Planet guide. Apparently, we rate above average in terms of our per capita carbon footprint. But it’s a vision that doesn’t square with my experience: if there are a few dirty side effects of the booming economy, there are also plenty of people – hoteliers, travel agents, local councils – wanting to right the balance.
